POLAND - Model European Union 2014

MODEL EU WARSAW 2014

9-14 May 2014
Model European Union Warsaw is a simulation of the legislative process of the European Union. Young people from all over Europe who will take part in the conference will be assigned the roles of MEPs, national Ministers in the Council of the EU and journalists.

Participants will get the opportunity to experience the way of how representative democracy works in the EU. Parliamentarians will have to find a balance between the interests of their home country and their respective party, while members of the Council must build alliances and journalists will have to tackle everything that is concerned with the release of a newspaper and will learn about the role of the media in general.
On the first day, participants will be improving their skills during special workshops on methods of public speaking, negotiating, cross-cultural differences, and effective meetings with EU institutions. They will also be instructed on the Rules of Procedure applicable during plenary sessions in the EP and Council, in order to allow for fruitful and smooth debates in the upcoming days of the simulation.
The simulation aims to make an impact on the participants’ commitment to European youth activities. Since the participants will have the entire week to learn about the role of the EP and the Council in the Europeans’ daily life, we are hoping that we will encourage them to become (or stay) active European citizens – they will have their first opportunity already a week after the end of the simulation, when European citizens will be selecting new MEPs.
Lastly, participants form lasting friendships during MEU. These relationships foster continued debate on European issues and association with future MEU simulations. Online forums and social networking facilities encourage this continued communication in our effort to cultivate long-term active European Citizenship in MEU participants.
Application deadline 6 April 2014
